Behind every successful club exists dedicated and selfless personalities who strive effortlessly day and night to put the club in the limelight.
For such persons, anything contrary to the success of their clubs isn’t relevant. Some gain recognition for their efforts, others do not. But for the efforts of a man who has lived his life serving a club in various capacities for decades; we choose to celebrate Gee Aidoo today.
Having joined the Miners shortly from Nsawam Gihoc Stars in the 1983 season as a player, Gee Aidoo facilitated the successful qualification of the Miners to Ghana’s topflight football Division. He then went back to Gihoc in 1984 after securing qualification with the Miners.
He moved from Gihoc to Nigerian club Ikeja Arsenal in 1985 and played 4 seasons, before moving to Cameroon in 1989 where he played eight (8) seasons for clubs like Avenir FC of Douala and De lum.
Upon returning in 1997, Gee Aidoo returned to Ashantigold SC but couldn’t continue his football career for health reasons. He then commenced a career in coaching with a short stint at Victoria Gardens and eventually joined the Miners in 2000 as an Academy coach; contributing to the grooming of players like Shaibu Yakubu, Sadick Adams, Wakasu Mubarak and many others.
In 2004, management realized his skill set in player welfare and team management, and as a result added the role of a Team manager and Welfare Officer to his roles, whiles he still served as an assistant coach. Upon the appointment of Coach David Duncan on 11th January 2006, Gee Aidoo became a substantive Team Manager and Welfare Officer of the club.
With more than 7 trophies with the Miners as a member of the technical team and over twenty matches in terms of Africa club football, Gee Aidoo undoubtedly has enormous experience in the game.
Having joined him for several prematch meetings, the joy expressed by match commissioners and coordinators upon seeing this man is incredible. He has paid his dues and well deserves the recognition accorded him.
Today, he continues to serve as an institutional memory in the club and a valuable asset to rely on. As he celebrates his birthday, we wish him enormous blessings and appreciate his efforts, and more importantly hope for more success together.
Happy Birthday “Bru-Bru- Brutal”
